An informal verb, especially familiar in Southern Vietnamese, meaning to pool or contribute money, property, effort, or another share with others for a common undertaking. It can also mean to chime in with supporting words or an opinion. The word signals participation, not by itself equal shares, ownership, profit, or a legally complete agreement.

Động từ khẩu ngữ, đặc biệt quen trong tiếng Nam Bộ. Nét chính là mỗi bên đem tiền, của, sức hoặc phần nguồn lực của mình góp chung để cùng mua, làm, kinh doanh hay gánh một việc; dịch pool, chip in, contribute, go in on hoặc join forces. Nét mở rộng là góp thêm lời/ý kiến cùng chiều vào câu chuyện hay cuộc tranh luận; dịch chime in, join in hoặc add one's support. Hùn không cho biết các phần có bằng nhau không, ai sở hữu tài sản, chia lời/lỗ thế nào hay thỏa thuận đã hợp pháp; các điều ấy phải nói hoặc ghi riêng. Hùn hạp là tổ hợp cũ/vùng về cùng góp làm ăn; hùn vốn và hùn sức là kết hợp thông dụng. Chữ Nôm 𡄬 và dạng mượn 魂 chỉ là chứng cứ cách ghi âm hùn, không biến động từ này thành âm Hán–Việt hồn.
