Timidly shrinking into oneself in posture or manner, often from fear, embarrassment, uncertainty, or excessive deference. It describes visible behaviour rather than proving guilt, consent, weakness of character, or a medical condition.

Tính từ/từ láy tả dáng hoặc cách hành xử rụt rè quá mức, người như thu tay chân, cúi nép và không dám cử động hay lên tiếng tự nhiên: timid, shrinking, diffident; chỉ dùng cowering khi có sợ hãi rõ.
