A Southern Vietnamese expression meaning a few days ago or the other day. It places an event in the recent past without naming the exact date and does not normally include the present the way hổm rày does.

Cụm thời gian Nam Bộ nghĩa là mấy hôm trước, dạo mấy bữa trước hoặc a few days ago/the other day. Nguồn ngôn ngữ học xem hôm hổm là tổ hợp đã hòa đúc nghĩa: không chỉ ghép cơ học hôm + hôm ấy, mà định vị một quãng/ngày gần trước hiện tại. Cụm thường kể một việc đã xảy ra và đã khép lại; nếu trạng thái kéo qua nhiều ngày tới lúc nói, hổm rày phù hợp hơn. Phân biệt hôm hổm với hồi hổm trỏ một dịp đã được hai bên biết, bữa hổm thường gọi một bữa/dịp quá khứ không định ngày, và hồi nẳm chỉ quá khứ xa. Không ép hôm hổm thành đúng hai, ba hay một số ngày cố định.
