Quỳ means to kneel: to lower the body so that one or both knees rest on a surface.

`Quỳ` là hạ người xuống để một hoặc hai đầu gối tì trên mặt đất hay mặt đỡ: *kneel; kneel down*. Có thể `quỳ một gối`, `quỳ hai gối`, `quỳ gối`, `quỳ xuống`; tư thế xuất hiện trong lao động, nghi lễ, cầu nguyện, cầu hôn, luyện tập hoặc hình phạt, nên bản thân từ không chứng minh tôn kính, đầu hàng, đồng thuận hay bị cưỡng ép. Phân biệt `quỳ` với `ngồi xổm`, `khụy gối` và `quỵ` là ngã gục hoặc suy sụp đột ngột. Dạng `quì` là biến thể chính tả cũ. Nguồn giải `quỳ` là âm phi Hán–Việt của `跪`, còn âm Hán–Việt chuẩn là `quỵ`; vì vậy tab chữ phải nói rõ quan hệ này, không gắn nhãn quỳ là âm Hán–Việt chuẩn.
