Nhứt is an older and Southern form of nhất 一, meaning one, first, sole, or unified in established compounds such as thứ nhứt, duy nhứt, and thống nhứt.

`Nhứt` là dạng cũ và dạng Nam Bộ của `nhất` (`一`), mang các nét một, đứng đầu, duy nhất hoặc hợp thành một thể trong những tổ hợp đã quen: `thứ nhứt`, `duy nhứt`, `nhứt định`, `nhứt là`, `thống nhứt`, `hiệp nhứt`. Không thay mọi chữ `nhất` bằng `nhứt` trong văn chuẩn hiện nay, nhưng phải giữ dạng nhứt trong lời nhân vật, văn liệu và tên riêng. Đặc biệt không nhập `nhứt` (`一`, một) với `nhựt` (`日`, mặt trời/ngày) dù hai dạng cùng gặp trong lời và văn Nam Bộ.
