Rò describes a container or system leaking liquid, gas, electricity, or another flow through an unintended opening or path; it also extends to information leaking outside its intended circle.

`Rò` có hai lớp: (1) vật chứa, đường ống, hệ thống hoặc lớp ngăn có chỗ hở rất nhỏ làm nước, khí, điện hay dòng khác thoát/truyền ra ngoài ý muốn: `ống rò nước`, `bình rò khí`, `rò điện`, `lỗ rò` (*leak; leakage; current leakage* theo chủ thể). `Rò` thường nhìn từ chỗ chứa/hệ thống có đường thất thoát, còn `rỉ` thường tả chất lỏng chảy/thấm từng ít; hai từ giao nhau trong thực tế. Từ không tự xác định vị trí lỗ, nguyên nhân, lưu lượng, độc tính hay mức nguy hiểm; (2) thông tin bị lộ ra ngoài phạm vi dự kiến: `rò tin`, `rò thông tin`, `nguồn tin bị rò` (*leak; be disclosed without authorization*). Nội dung bị rò chưa chắc đúng, và từ không tự chứng minh ai vi phạm, cố ý hay phạm tội. `Rò rỉ` là dạng ghép rất thông dụng và có thể dùng cho cả vật chất lẫn thông tin. Tra Hán–Nôm chỉ gặp `rò mạ`, `cò rò`, không có chứng tích trực tiếp cho hai lớp thất thoát đang giải nên tab chữ để trống.
