Biểu thức khẩu ngữ gồm hai lớp liên quan. Một là khỏi cần nói/không cần nhắc vì điều ấy đã rõ, không cần thiết hoặc người nói muốn dừng chuyện: no need to say, no need to mention it. Hai là đứng sau tính từ hay trạng thái để nhấn mức rất cao, tới mức ‘không cần nói cũng biết’: ngon khỏi nói, mệt khỏi nói, ồn khỏi nói; dịch incredibly, unbelievably, beyond words hoặc cấu trúc tự nhiên theo tính từ. Khỏi nói không mặc định lời khen: cực tính đến từ từ đứng trước. Cũng không phải lúc nào cũng tương đương needless to say, vì nó có thể là lời ngăn nhắc lại hoặc một bổ ngữ tăng mức. Chưa có chứng cứ thì không dựng hồ sơ Hán–Nôm.
