`Coi thử` là collocation gồm động từ `coi` và yếu tố `thử`, chỉ việc nhìn, xem, đọc, theo dõi, ghé coi hoặc kiểm tra một cách thăm dò để biết tình trạng, nội dung, kết quả hay có hợp ý không trước khi kết luận hoặc quyết định. Tùy bổ ngữ, tiếng Anh có thể là `take a look`, `have a look`, `watch and see`, `read over`, `check`, `inspect` hoặc `go and see`. Cụm có thể đứng trong lời mời/yêu cầu (`cô coi thử`), lời nhận việc (`để tôi coi thử`) hoặc câu kể (`ổng đi coi thử`). `Coi thử` thường đặt `coi` làm hành động chính; `thử coi` thường đặt `thử coi` sau một hành động khác để mời làm thử, nhưng hai mẫu có vùng giao và câu `coi thử coi` cần đọc theo nhịp. Việc coi thử không mặc định người xem được phép tiếp cận, vật an toàn, nhận xét chính xác, việc thử thành công, người ấy sẽ mua–nhận–làm theo hay đã cam kết.
