Quyết toán is the process of reconciling and finalizing actual financial figures for a completed period, project, or contract, or the resulting final accounts; it is not the same as payment or audit.

`Quyết toán` là đối chiếu chứng từ và số thực tế để chốt các khoản thu, chi, tạm ứng, nghĩa vụ hoặc giá trị đã thực hiện sau một kỳ, dự án hay hợp đồng: *finalize the accounts; financial closeout; final accounts*. Từ có thể là động từ (`quyết toán dự án`) hoặc danh từ trong `báo cáo/hồ sơ quyết toán`. Phạm vi và thủ tục thay đổi theo loại việc; định nghĩa từ vựng không thay quy định kế toán, thuế, ngân sách hay hợp đồng hiện hành. Hoàn tất bảng quyết toán không tự đồng nghĩa đã được phê duyệt, đã thanh toán hết, không còn sai sót hoặc đã qua kiểm toán. Phân biệt `quyết toán` với `thanh toán` là trả tiền, `kiểm toán` là kiểm tra và đưa ý kiến theo phạm vi, `tất toán` là kết thúc một tài khoản/khoản vay theo điều kiện và `đối chiếu` là so số liệu chưa chắc đã chốt. Lời Nam Bộ thường nói `chốt sổ`, `so lại rồi khóa sổ`; trong giấy tờ vẫn dùng đúng thuật ngữ quyết toán. Tab ghi `決算`.
