Gia nhân is an older word for a household servant or attendant. In classical texts, 家人 can also mean people of the household. It is different from giai nhân, a literary word usually meaning a beautiful woman.

`Gia nhân` 家人 thường gọi người hầu hoặc người làm trong nhà theo lối cũ. Trong Hán văn hoặc bản dịch sát văn cổ, còn có nghĩa người trong một nhà. Phải xét quan hệ được kể, không mặc nhiên coi người nhà là người hầu, cũng không áp nguyên cách xưng gọi thứ bậc cũ vào lao động gia đình hiện nay. Phân biệt gia nhân với giai nhân 佳人. Tên quẻ Gia Nhân trong Kinh Dịch là một mục chuyên biệt, không triển khai bói đoán ở đây.
