A literary Sino-Vietnamese term for achievement, reputation, and public position earned through a career. In historical writing it often refers more specifically to success in the civil-service examinations and an official career; it is not simply any paid job.

Danh từ Hán–Việt mang sắc thái văn chương, chỉ sự nghiệp cùng tiếng tăm hoặc địa vị có được trong đời. Trong văn cảnh xưa, từ thường gắn với con đường khoa cử và làm quan; trong lời hiện nay, nó xuất hiện nhiều ở các cụm “đường công danh”, “chuyện công danh”, “công danh sự nghiệp”. Không nên đồng nhất công danh với một việc làm có lương, chức danh tạm thời hay sự nổi tiếng trên mạng.
