`Con rạ` đối lập với `con so`, dùng theo văn cảnh để chỉ đứa con sinh từ lần sau lần đầu, lần mang thai/sinh sau, hoặc người đã có tiền căn sinh. Trong sản khoa, cơ sở y tế có thể quy định tiêu chí theo số lần sinh và ngưỡng tuổi thai cụ thể; vì vậy không tự dịch mọi `con rạ` thành *multigravida* hay *multipara* nếu chưa biết biến số đang nói là lần mang thai hay lần sinh. Từ không chỉ riêng Nam Bộ và không cho biết chính xác đã có bao nhiêu con, kết cục thai kỳ trước, cách sinh, độ dễ của lần sinh này, tuổi hay kinh nghiệm nuôi con. Không liên quan đến tình trạng tái hôn.
