An informal expression, especially common in southern Vietnamese, meaning that something seems, appears, or looks likely on the basis of available signs. It introduces an impression or inference rather than a confirmed fact.

Cụm khẩu ngữ rất quen ở Nam Bộ, dùng để nêu nhận xét hay phỏng đoán từ dấu hiệu người nói thấy được, gần “có vẻ, xem ra, hình như” tùy mức chắc chắn. “Coi bộ” thường đứng trước một mệnh đề hoặc tính từ: coi bộ trời mưa, coi bộ mệt. Không hiểu từng chữ thành “nhìn một cơ thể” và không dịch mọi câu bằng look at; thường dùng seem, appear, look like/as if hoặc it looks as though. Vì đây là suy đoán, ví dụ không được trình bày nội dung sau nó như sự thật đã xác nhận.
